Article: Shall We Gather At The River

Bible Study:

  • Exodus 22:25-26 ‘If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury…no pledge from your neighbor. The Bible is very clear, if you loan money to a Christian you:
    • Can’t charge interest
    • Hold collateral
    • Put pressure on them or dun them to pay you back
    • If they do, consider it a gift
  • Leviticus 25:35-37 ‘And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him; yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee. Take thou no usury of him; or increase: …Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.’ Again, no interest, no collateral, no duns, no increase to you from the transaction.
  • Deuteronomy 15:7-11 ‘…thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: but thou shalt OPEN THINE HAND WIDE unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in THAT WHICH HE WANTETH’. Give him more than he needs and more than he asks for.
  • Deuteronomy 23:19-21 ‘Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money,…of victuals,,,of anything that is lent upon usury: unto a STRANGER thou mayest lend upon usury, but not unto thy brother…that the Lord may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to…’
  • Deuteronomy 24:10 ‘When thou DOST LEND thy brother anything, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.’ Again, ‘WHEN” not “IF”
  • 13 says you will receive a blessing for doing this action right.
  • Luke 6:38 ‘Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, SHALL MEN GIVE INTO YOUR BOSOM…’
