This Sunday on the Bible Views Radio Show, the subject is "What is your life? The answer is in the 'dash' on your tombstone". Think about that. We read obits every day and see on tombstones in every cemetery the person's name and then 1943 - 20013. That dash represents everyone's life, however long that may be.
This weekend I am preaching and singing at The People's Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, TX. I asked the preacher to go to the Funeral Home and ask them where they get their tombstones. Then go to that granite carving place and get me a rejected headstone with dates on it, but preferably, not my name, and have it sitting in front of the pulpit on Sunday. He did and he also said it was too heavy to carry. (should have gotten a smaller one).
My sermon there and my message on this Sunday's radio show is 'your life represented by a dash.
Mark 8:36 "What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?"
Luke 12:15 "For a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."
Daniel 5:27 "Thou are weighed in the balance and art found wanting".
People die at parties when the building collapses. Airplane crashes. Shootings in Schools, Theaters, and Churches which, of course, are no gun zones. Where do you thing mentally deranged individuals are going to go to do their killing?
The point is, no one knows how long we have to live and we need to make the most of it. Looking back on your life, what does the dash represent? Good? Evil? Progress? Integrity? A good example to your kids, relatives, employer, employees, spouse? What is your life? It is changeable while you are alive. After the dash is put on your tombstone it is then too late.
Make the most of everyday in 2014!
